The University of Maine track and field team competed at the Sean Collier Invitational hosted by MIT on April 17 and 18, finishing with four top-10 placements across several events.
The event provided an opportunity for the Black Bears to test their skills against regional competition as they prepare for upcoming meets. The team’s performances highlighted both individual and collective progress in distance running events.
In the men’s 1500-meter race, Eli Palmer placed ninth with a time of 3:53.96. Dan Knight followed closely in twelfth place, clocking in at 3:54.58, while Matt Firlings finished fifteenth with a time of 3:55.44. Owen Transue was Maine’s sole competitor in the men’s 5000 meters, securing eleventh place by finishing in under fifteen minutes.
Adam Bendetson led Maine’s efforts in the men’s 10,000 meters by taking second place with a time of 30:16.78. Teammates Connor Daigle and Harry Grenier finished fourth and sixth respectively, contributing to a strong showing for the Black Bears in this event.
In the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase, Jack Burns achieved second place with a time of 9:26.82 while Kyle McClellan took fourth at 9:37.83.
Looking ahead, the Black Bears will compete next at the Penn Relays beginning Thursday, April 23.
