The University of Maine track and field program competed at the Sean Collier Invitational hosted by MIT on April 17 and 18, where several athletes posted strong performances.
The event saw Lila Garbett win her debut in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:57.02. Kennedy Taylor finished second in the same race with a time of 11:15.06.
In other results, Veselja Treacy won the women’s 1500 meters, finishing in 4:28.82. Kara Tschida and Meredith Walters placed eleventh and thirteenth respectively in that event, recording times of 4:40.69 and 4:42.48.
Ruby Krasnow took first place in the women’s 5000 meters with a time of 15:59.16, winning by more than fifteen seconds over the next competitor. Ryan O’Connor finished ninth (17:36.57) and Lauren Hamilton tenth (17:37.21) in that race.
Katelyn Macnamara was Maine’s only competitor in the women’s 10,000 meters, finishing sixth overall with a time of 41:23.29.
The Black Bears are scheduled to compete again starting Thursday, April 23 as they travel to Philadelphia for the Penn Relays.
