WASHINGTON – Congressman Jared Golden issued this statement on the passing of Mal Leary:

“For the duration of his almost 50-year career in journalism, Mal Leary represented the best of his field. Any Mainer reading, watching, or listening to one of Mal’s stories could count on news that gave you a better understanding of our state.

“I first met Mal back in my days as a State Representative in Augusta, when he was covering our work in the State House. It was clear to me then, as it was to so many others, that Mal was unique in his approach to his job. He was driven by a desire to report thoughtfully and without bias — just a simple dedication to giving Mainers the news they needed in the best possible form.

“Mal’s passing is a tremendous loss for journalism in our state. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues.” – Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02)
