Hunter St. Denis of the University of Maine baseball team was named America East Rookie of the Week, according to an April 14 announcement from the America East Conference.
The recognition highlights St. Denis’s performance during a non-conference weekend series against Northeastern and Merrimack, where he played a key role in helping the Black Bears secure two wins out of three games.
St. Denis, a freshman from Laytonsville, Maryland, achieved a .500 batting average over the weekend and drove in seven runs for his team. He began by going 2-for-3 at bat and driving in four out of five runs during Maine’s 5-0 victory over Northeastern. On Sunday against Merrimack, he added another three runs batted in with a 3-for-5 performance before finishing the series with another hit in the final game.
This marks St. Denis’s second Rookie of the Week honor this season and is also the sixth time overall that a member of the Black Bears has received this award during this campaign.
The university concluded its announcement by reiterating its commitment to developing champions with integrity.
