The University of Maine softball team lost to Idaho State on March 8 in the final game of the Orange and Black Classic held at Miller Ranch Stadium in Pocatello, Idaho.
The result marks a setback for the Black Bears as they prepare for their upcoming doubleheader against Merrimack. The game ended with a score of 11-0 in favor of Idaho State.
Maine managed to hold Idaho State scoreless in the first inning. In the top of the second, Madison Hand singled up the middle and advanced to second base but was left stranded. Idaho State responded by scoring six runs in the bottom half of the second inning and added five more runs in the third.
In the fifth inning, Kennedy Burns reached base and was joined by Neve Adams, but both runners were left on base as Maine was unable to capitalize. Alysen Rieth started as pitcher for Maine, throwing 2.1 innings before Kyla Brogan came on in relief for 1.2 innings. Hand finished the day going 1-for-2 at bat with a single.
The Black Bears will return to New England to face Merrimack College in a doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday, March 8.
