The University of Maine baseball team lost the final game of its series against UMass Lowell on May 10. The game ended with a score of 5-4 in favor of UMass Lowell.
This result concludes the series between the two teams, with Maine unable to secure a win in the last matchup. The outcome is important for both teams as they approach the end of their regular season schedules.
Quinn Murphy put Maine on the scoreboard in the fifth inning with an RBI single that brought Shane Andrus home. Nic Pepe followed with a sacrifice fly, allowing Albert De La Rosa to score, and Murphy later scored on a wild pitch, giving Maine a temporary lead. Hunter St. Denis added to Maine’s tally by hitting his ninth home run of the season in the sixth inning.
On the pitching side, Thomas Stabley started for Maine and delivered his first collegiate quality start by pitching six and one-third innings, allowing three runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout. Owen Wheeler contributed an inning and two-thirds out of the bullpen, retiring all five batters he faced and striking out two. Sebastian Holt (1-2) pitched in relief but allowed two runs in the ninth inning on two hits.
Looking ahead, Maine (17-30) will host Merrimack for its final non-conference game of the regular season on Tuesday, May 12. First pitch is scheduled for 2 PM.
