The University of Maine baseball team lost to Northeastern on April 29 at Delta Dental Park at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine.
The game ended with a score of 5-1 in favor of Northeastern. The result impacts the Black Bears as they approach the end of their season and prepare for their final road series.
Hunter St. Denis drove in Troy Carpenter with a single to left field in the ninth inning, scoring Maine’s only run. Starting pitcher Thomas Stabley took the loss after pitching three innings, giving up three runs on four hits, walking one and striking out two batters. Erik Swenson came on in relief for two innings, allowing two runs from one hit and three walks while striking out four.
Owen Wheeler pitched a scoreless sixth inning with two hits allowed, one walk and two strikeouts. Brennan Rumpf followed with a perfect seventh inning that included one strikeout. Pierce Friedman handled the eighth without giving up any runs, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out two. Sebastian Holt closed out the ninth inning by surrendering no runs on a hit and recording one strikeout.
The Black Bears now hold a record of 15-26 this season. Their next games will be played away against Binghamton starting Friday, May 1, as part of their last road trip before returning home.
