This series marks the first time the two programs have played each other. Game one is set for Friday evening, with Jason Krieger (0-3, 8.85 ERA) pitching for Maine and Ty Horn (2-1, 5.40 ERA) starting for Nebraska. Saturday features a doubleheader: Vaun Larisa (0-1, 5.23 ERA) will start game two for Maine against John Delgado (1-0, 1.64 ERA), while Gianni Gambardella (1-3, 9.16 ERA) faces Gavin Blachowicz (2-1, 2.41 ERA) in game three.
The Black Bears have started the season strong at the plate and have received America East weekly honors in each of the first four weeks of the season. Jack Donlin and Troy Carpenter earned Pitcher and Rookie of the Week awards on opening weekend; Carpenter repeated as Rookie of the Week in week two; Rex Hauser took Rookie of the Week honors in week three; and Hunter St. Denis was recognized in week four after posting a .400/.500/1.121 slash line with two home runs, four runs scored, and five RBIs.
Maine has hit 24 home runs through four weeks—ranking them 43rd nationally and leading America East by a margin of 14 homers over second place. Several players are among conference leaders: Carpenter is tied for most RBIs with 15; Juju Stevens leads with six home runs and 19 hits as well as a conference-best OPS of 1.218; Stevens also shares the lead in doubles with five alongside Brody Rasmussen who is tied for third with four doubles; Hauser matches Stevens atop slugging percentage at .750.
In their previous outing, Maine was swept by Dayton across three games despite notable performances from Carpenter—who drove in a run each game—and Quinn Murphy who hit two home runs and collected four RBIs. St. Denis led all Black Bears hitters with five RBIs including two home runs during that series.
