The University of Maine softball team earned a 2-1 win against Husson University on April 15 at the Pierre & Catherine Labat Softball Complex.
The game was decided by strong pitching and timely hitting. The Black Bears took an early lead in the bottom of the second inning when Keira Inman tripled and later scored as Eviana Robles stole second base. Husson tied the game in the top of the fourth with a home run to left field. Maine regained the lead in the fifth inning when Madison Hand hit a solo home run to left field.
Ava Zettlemoyer played a key role in relief, striking out six of ten batters over three innings without allowing a hit, securing the win for Maine. Alysen Rieth started for Maine, pitching four innings and giving up one run on two hits while recording two strikeouts, which brought her career total to 300.
Six different players from Maine recorded hits during the game, including Inman’s triple and Hand’s home run. The victory improved Maine’s all-time record against Husson to 16-0.
Maine is scheduled to host Binghamton for a three-game America East series on Saturday and Sunday.
