The University of Maine softball team will travel to face Merrimack in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 11. The games are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. at Martone-Mejail Field in North Andover, Massachusetts.

This matchup is part of Maine’s return to the New England area as the team continues its non-conference schedule. Fans can find updated game times, statistics, and watch links by visiting GoBlackBears.com/softballschedule.

Merrimack enters the series with a record of 2-9 after opening Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play last weekend with two losses at Mount St. Mary’s. The Warriors have recorded wins over Morgan State and Cornell this season. Caity Lemay leads Merrimack offensively with a .360 batting average, nine hits, and eight runs batted in. In pitching, Anna Gedacht has thrown a team-high 29.1 innings while five other pitchers have seen limited action.

Maine holds an overall record of 4-15 following five losses at the Orange and Black Classic last weekend. The Black Bears began their season by scoring in each of their first sixteen games—a streak not matched since the 1999 season—before being shut out by Southern Utah on March 7. Keira Inman leads Maine with a .275 batting average and three home runs, ranking third in America East for home runs and ninth for OPS (1.020). Alli Goetz leads the team with a .432 on-base percentage while Alysen Rieth has pitched forty innings, second most in the conference.

Earlier this season, Inman was named America East Player of the Week and Goetz earned Rookie of the Week honors after strong performances at the Battle at the Bay tournament. Returning players include Francesca Guerrera, who started all games last year; Rieth, who led Maine’s pitching staff; Morgan Pool behind the plate; and Madison Simmerman among rookie pitchers.

After facing Merrimack, Maine will be off for the weekend before continuing non-conference play next week against Saint Peter’s, Monmouth, and Iona.
