Adrianna Smith recorded her 55th career double-double as the University of Maine women’s basketball team defeated Binghamton 74-67 on Senior Day, securing the second seed for the upcoming America East playoffs.

With this victory, the Black Bears will begin their postseason on March 5 at Skip Chappelle Court, hosting the No. 7 seed at 6 p.m. Tickets are currently available through GoBlackBears.com/Tickets, by phone at 207-581-BEAR, or in person at the Alfond Arena ticket office.

Smith finished with 21 points and 17 rebounds, marking her 17th double-double of the season and seventh consecutive game achieving this feat. During the game, she also reached her 1,000th career rebound, becoming the first student-athlete in America East history—male or female—to record over 1,000 points, more than 1,000 rebounds, and over 400 assists during a collegiate career.

Sarah Talon contributed 18 points and seven rebounds on her senior day. Lala Woods also added a career-high of 18 points with four three-pointers.

Maine made half its shots from the field (27-of-54) including eight three-pointers and went 12-of-16 from the free throw line. The Black Bears led by as many as 23 points in the first half and outscored Binghamton by a margin of 25-12 in the opening quarter.

A run late in the first quarter began when Smith and Asta Blauenfeldt scored to start a stretch where Maine kept Binghamton scoreless for over seven minutes. This sequence helped Maine build a lead of up to 35-12 before halftime. At halftime, Maine held an advantage of 43-25.

Binghamton narrowed the deficit to nine points late in the third quarter before Maine responded with two three-pointers from Woods to close out that period ahead by thirteen.

In the fourth quarter Blauenfeldt’s three-pointer increased Maine’s lead again before Binghamton mounted another comeback attempt that brought them within four points with less than thirty seconds left. Maine ultimately held on for its twelfth conference win of the season with a final score of 74-67.
