University of Maine basketball players Adrianna Smith and Lala Woods have received weekly honors from the America East Conference, according to an announcement made by the league on Monday.

Adrianna Smith was named America East Player of the Week for the seventh time this season and the 14th time in her career. This is also the third consecutive week she has earned this recognition. Lala Woods was selected as America East Rookie of the Week, marking her first time receiving this award.

Smith played a key role in leading the Black Bears to two victories last week. She averaged 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, nine assists, and three steals per game in wins over UAlbany and Binghamton. In the game against UAlbany, Smith recorded 20 points, 12 assists, eight rebounds, and three steals. Her basket with less than three seconds left secured the win for Maine. In the regular season finale against Binghamton, she contributed 21 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, and three steals. This victory ensured that Maine would be seeded second in the upcoming America East Playoffs.

Woods averaged 14 points and 3.5 rebounds over two games last week. The freshman guard scored double digits in both contests—posting 10 points and tying her career-high with six rebounds against UAlbany before setting a new personal best with 18 points, including four three-pointers, in the win over Binghamton.

The Black Bears will play next on Thursday at 6 p.m., hosting No. 7 New Hampshire in the America East quarterfinals. Tickets are available at GoBlackBears.com/Tickets.

“Smith guided the Black Bears to a pair of wins, averaging 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 9.0 assists, and 3.0 steals in wins over UAlbany and Binghamton,” stated the university press release.

“Woods…registered back-to-back double-digit scoring performances in wins over UAlbany and Binghamton,” according to UMaine Athletics.
