Release Date: April 18, 2022 Release Time: 11:00 AM

On April 18, 2022, at approximately 09:09 AM, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Orr’s Island Fire/EMS responded to a single vehicle crash in the area of 1547 Harpswell Islands Road (Route #24).

A gold 2008 NISSAN Titan truck left the roadway traveling east narrowly missing a telephone pole. The truck continued well off the roadway and struck a large tree head on.

The operator was GIARD FERNAND 61 years old of Harpswell. He suffered serious head trauma as a result of the crash, was extricated from the wreckage, and transported to the Maine Medical Center for treatment.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit. Girard was apparently not wearing a seat belt at the time.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office reminds all drivers that seat belts are required under Maine Law. Seat belts save lives and reduce injuries in crashes.
