50.6% of households in Newport received food stamps in 2020

Newport ranked first in Maine for the percentage of households receiving food stamps in 2020, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.

There were 447 Newport households (50.6 percent) who received food stamps. Newport's population was 1,911 in 2020.

The city with the lowest percentage of households receiving food stamps in the state was Gorham, which had 20 of 2,583 households receiving food stamps, 49.8 percent less than Newport. In 2020 the population of Gorham was 7,322.
