On the above date and time the Regional Communications Center received a call from a motorist who reported that a Black Ford F150 with a Maine registration was operating erratically, to include nearly striking several other motorists. The vehicle was traveling on route 302 in Windham headed into Raymond.
A deputy from Cumberland County located the truck traveling westbound on Rte 302 near the Raymond Beach. The truck continued swerving between opposing traffic and breakdown lane.
The deputy attempted to stop the truck, but it immediately accelerated and began passing vehicles on the left and right at speeds greater than 90MPH. While attempting to stop the truck, the deputy ran the vehicle registration and discovered the owner had a Bridgton address. Due to the high volume of traffic, coupled with dangerous speed, the deputy discontinued the pursuit and radioed ahead to notify other
officers.
A few minutes later and several miles away, a second Cumberland County deputy passing through the Naples Causeway located the truck. The deputy observed the truck tailgating and continuing to pass other cars. Once all vehicles passed through the congested Causeway area, the deputy attempted to stop the truck again. The truck immediately passed a line of cars and accelerated to speeds of nearly 100MPH.
Bridgton Police was notified and prepared to deploy spike mats near the Naples/Bridgton town line. The deputy continued to pursue the truck for approximately 2.5 miles before it pulled to the right and stopped near the intersection of Kansas Rd. Taken into custody without incident was Kristen BARR age 62 of Bridgton. Barr was alone in the vehicle.
Barr was arrested and transported to the Cumberland County Jail where bail was set at $5000.00 unsecured. Barr was charged with the following offenses:
Failure to Stop for a Law Enforcement Officer, Driving to Endanger, Criminal Speed, Attempting to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer, and OUI refusal.
The traffic volume in the Sebago Lake area on a Sunday afternoon, particularly during the summer
months, coupled with the driver’s reckless operation created a very dangerous situation. Deputies took several measures to reduce the risks created by this dangerous driver and are grateful that this incident did not result in tragedy.
