MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE – 7/23/2022
(As an update to this original news release, the family has authorized release of the name of the 9-year old tragically killed in this incident).
Hallie Oldham, 9 years old from Poland, ME was tragically killed when a large pine tree fell on the roof of the car she was in. At the time, Jarod and Jennifer Oldham were preparing to leave the campground with their children to escape the storm. Just prior to the Oldham family leaving, two large pine trees were uprooted by strong winds. One tree struck the awning of the Oldham’s camper and then crushed the family’s truck. The second tree struck the vehicle occupied by Hallie, her younger sister, and her mother. Hallie’s father had not yet gotten into the car.
Given the extent of destruction surrounding the Oldham’s vehicles and their campsite, this horrific tragedy also proved to be a miracle that the rest of the family survived this incident.
The public safety community joins our local communities in showing support for the Oldham family in their time of tremendous grief. For the vast number of inquiries already received, friends of the Oldham family are intending to establish a GoFundMe account. The family also wishes for any considerations given to Poland Recreation Department, for which Hallie was a big part of.
