They are at it again, individuals calling local citizens claiming they are from the Maine State Sheriff’s Association soliciting for donations. This is a scam, no such organization exists to our knowledge. There is a Maine Sheriff’s Association however they do not solicit for donations. Neither does the Maine Chiefs of Police. It is illegal for any law enforcement agency as well as any group associated with a specific agency to solicit for donations. If you receive such a call, tell them you know they are frauds and to have them call the real Sheriff’s office at 207-778-2680 and ask for a donation there. Or use your own imagination on what to tell them.
