On the above date and time, Deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office along with Standish Fire/EMS responded to a report of motor vehicle crash on Pequawket Trail (Rte 113) near the intersection of Ossippee Trail West (Rte 25).

The crash involved a 2004 Volvo, operated by 32 year old Rebecca McVety of Standish and a Leavitt Earthworks tri-axle Dump Truck. The truck was fully loaded with dirt. The Leavitt Earthworks dump truck was operated by 55 year old Erik Betters, also of Standish.

Rebecca McVety sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to Maine Medical Center via LifeFlight helicopter. McVety’s two year old daughter was a passenger in her vehicle and also sustained serious injuries. The toddler was transported by Standish EMS to Maine Medical Center. Betters sustained no injuries and was released from the scene. Each driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and the child was properly fastened in a child safety seat.

The crash is being investigated by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit. Neither speed nor alcohol is suspected in this crash. Police are

investigating whether distracted driving was a contributing factor. Due to the extent of damage, this was a technical extrication rescue to remove the occupants safely from the wreckage.
