On the above date and time, Deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office along with Gray Fire/EMS and Windham Fire/EMS responded for a report of motor vehicle crash in the area of West Gray Road and Pleasant View Drive.

The crash involved a 2007 Cadillac DTS, operated by 18 year old Zachary Spurling of New Gloucester and a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek, operated by Maureen Smith (66) of Westbrook. Zachary lost control of the car and crossed the center lane striking the Crosstrek that was going in the opposite direction. The Cadillac continued into a ditch and striking a culvert before going airborne and coming to rest in a ditch. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene. Maureen was treated and released at the scene. Zachary was evaluated and transported to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries.

West Gray Road in the area of Pleasant View Drive was shut down for an extended period of time while the crash was reconstructed by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit with assistance from the Windham Police Department. The cause of the crash is under investigation, speed appears to be a factor.
