Incident Date: November 27, 2022

Incident Time: 1:25 pm

Incident Location: Route 35, Naples.

Release Date: November 27, 2022

Release Time: 8:30 pm

On the above date and time, Deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office along with Naples Fire/EMS and Casco responded for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving two vehicles in the area of Route 302 and 35 in Naples.

The crash involved a 2020 Chevrolet truck operated by Evert Kinser (59 years old) of Naples and a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta operated by Ethan Gardner (19 years old) of Otisfield. Evert was stopped in traffic at the traffic light when Ethan struck the rear end of Evert’s vehicle. Ethan fled prior to deputies’ arrival on scene.

Once deputies arrived, witnesses informed them on the vehicle description and the direction of travel from the scene. Ethan fled the scene and was last seen traveling north on Route 35 towards Harrison. Ethan’s vehicle was located a short distance north on Route 35. The initial investigation revealed Ethan’s vehicle went into the shoulder on the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then went across the roadway and struck a tree causing extensive damage to the vehicle. Ethan was the sole occupant in the vehicle. Ethan sustained life-ending injuries as a result of the crash.

Route 35 was shut down for an extended period of time while the crash was reconstructed by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, however speed appears to be a factor.
