The Kora Shriners' new statute in Lewiston entitled Silent Messenger speaks volumes about the impact Shriners have on the lives of countless individuals.
Unveiled on Dec. 3 on Sabattus Street, the statue depicts Evansville, Indiana, Shriner Al Hortman and 5-year-old Bobbi Jo Wright; the statute was inspired by a 1970 photograph of them.
The Shriners are known for their vast philanthrophy and their 22 children's hospitals throughout North America. Now in her late 50s, Wright attended the ceremony and said the Shriners changed her life.
