On March 9th 2023 at approximately 2:20 PM, the Pollywogs to Speckled Frogs Daycare, located at 190 Northeast Road in Standish received concerning information regarding an armed person that was on the way to the facility to get a family member. This information was immediately forwarded to the CumberlandCounty Sheriff’s Office via the Cumberland County Regional Communications Center and the daycare facility went into a full lockdown.

The Sheriff’s Office arrived to the scene and made contact with the staff and children. Given the information gathered, it was determined that a controlled and supervised release of children to their guardians would be conducted with the assistance of law enforcement.

At approximately 4:15 PM, after a thorough multiagency investigation, it was determined that there was no active threat, however, the daycare had released all children to their guardian safely and successfully.

The daycare staff responded swiftly to the concerning information and did an excellent job activating the emergency response system to best protect the children and staff at the facility. The facility was able to quickly pass pertinent information to responders, to help dictate an appropriate response. We commend the staff at Pollywogs to Speckled Frogs Daycare for their professionalism and for the actions they took to ensure the safety of the children.

We realize this incident was frightening for the guardians involved and we thank all those who responded to gather their children for being patient, polite and understanding. Area law enforcement take these kind of situations very seriously. We are committed to protecting your children and today’s law enforcement response displayed our agency’s preparedness to respond.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Windham and Biddeford Police Departments during the investigation. At this time, no further information will be released, as it was determined there was no active threat.
