Release Time: 1:45 pm

On the above date and time, Deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office along with members of Standish Fire/EMS and Troopers from the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unitresponded for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a fuel truck in the area of 174 Saco Rd in Standish.

The crash involved a 2017 Peterbuilt Fuel truck owned by Champagne’s Energy in Arundel and operated by Aaron Turlis (46 years old) of Limerick.

The initial investigation shows the truck traveling south on Saco Rd. The truck crossed the center line into the opposite travel lane. The truck continued into the ditch, which caused it to roll. The truck came to rest on its side. Standish Fire/EMS had to extricate Aaron from the truck. Aaron was transported to Maine Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. The truck was towed due to extensive damage. No fuel leaked from the truck.

Saco Rd was shut down for an extended period of time while the crash was cleaned up. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. However, the weather and road conditions seem to have been a factor.
