There were six lawyers in good standing in cities within Piscataquis County as of the third quarter of 2024, according to the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar.

This is unchanged from the previous quarter.

Dover-Foxcroft was the only city in Piscataquis County to have lawyers with active licenses during the third quarter of 2024, accounting for all six lawyers.

Lawyers in good standing do not have any complaints or disciplinary actions being taken against them.

As of December 2024, the average salary for a starting lawyer in Maine is around $103,838 per year, which is roughly in line with the national average.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has been authorized to sue the state of Maine for allegedly failing to provide legal representation to indigent defendants. According to an ACLU report, nearly 800 individuals were without legal counsel in October 2024, a significant increase of over 620% compared to November 2023.

"Today’s order shows that it is time for the finger-pointing to stop. Just as the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 61 years ago, the entirety of government is responsible for upholding the people’s right to an attorney – not one agency, one official, or one branch of government,” said ACLU of Maine Legal Director Carol Garvan.

Data refers to all lawyers who were actively practicing during this period.
