The University of Maine announced on Mar. 19 the dates for its 2026 Family & Friends and Homecoming weekends, both set to take place in October in Orono.
Family & Friends weekend is scheduled for Oct. 2-4, while Homecoming Weekend, presented by Bangor Savings Bank, will be held from Oct. 23-25. These events are longstanding traditions that bring together students, families, alumni, and the broader community.
UMaine President Joan Ferrini-Mundy said, “Family & Friends Weekend and Homecoming are two of the most meaningful traditions at the University of Maine, bringing together students, families, alumni and our broader community. These celebrations highlight the pride, connection and sense of community that define the Black Bear experience, while showcasing the energy and impact of our university across Maine.”
Maine Football will play a central role during both weekends. The Black Bears will host Sacred Heart on Saturday, Oct. 3 during Family & Friends weekend and Campbell on Saturday, Oct. 24 during Homecoming weekend. Game times and additional fall athletics schedules will be announced later.
Orono Town Manager Clint Deschene said, “We’re thrilled to welcome everyone home for these special weekends. Events like these bring vibrancy to our community, support local businesses and reflect the strong partnership between the Town and the University of Maine.” Old Town City Manager Bill Mayo added, “Homecoming is a celebration that resonates across the region. The City of Old Town is proud to be both a community partner and season ticket holder in support of the University of Maine Athletics.” Amy Collinsworth, Economic Development Director for Old Town said, “We look forward to welcoming families, alumni, and fans for Family & Friends and Homecoming weekends, which bring tremendous energy and economic impact to our region. These events highlight the strong connection between the University and surrounding communities, and we are excited to be part of that experience again this fall.”
Homecoming is described as UMaine’s largest event of the year with activities including class reunions, tailgating, campus tours, concerts, lectures, presentations and sporting events over three days starting Friday Oct. 23.
