University of Maine baseball defeats Bowdoin with strong offensive showing

The University of Maine baseball team defeated Bowdoin on Tuesday afternoon, April 28, with a final score of 11-4.

The game featured several key offensive moments for Maine. Brody Rasmussen opened the scoring with a single up the middle that brought home Nic Pepe. Quinn Murphy added another run in the first inning by scoring on a double steal. In the third inning, Troy Carpenter hit his twelfth home run of the season, a solo shot to center field. Shortly after, Rasmussen contributed a two-run home run—his third this year—scoring Hunter St. Denis.

Maine’s offense surged in the sixth inning with six runs. Murphy started off with an RBI single to bring in Drew Reynolds. Carpenter followed by hitting his second home run of the game and thirteenth overall this season—a three-run homer that scored Pepe and Murphy. St. Denis then made it back-to-back homers with his fifth of the season, and Albert De La Rosa capped off the inning by driving in Rasmussen.

On the pitching side, Tommy Martin started for Maine and threw three innings, allowing two unearned runs on four hits while striking out four batters. Jack Donlin earned his first win after pitching three scoreless innings and recording five strikeouts. Rex Hauser contributed two innings and allowed two runs on four hits, while Owen Wheeler closed out the game allowing two runs (one earned) over one inning.

Looking ahead, Maine (15-25) will host Northeastern at Hadlock Field in Portland on Wednesday, April 29 at 6 PM.
