The University of Maine football program announced on Apr. 17 the addition of five new staff members for the upcoming 2026 season, including three positional coaches, a sports performance coach, and an equipment manager.

These appointments aim to strengthen various aspects of the Black Bears’ coaching and support staff as they prepare for future competitions.

Fredrick Gladney joins as wide receivers coach after working at Mercyhurst University, where he served as special teams coordinator, wide receivers coach, and academic coordinator. During his time at Mercyhurst, Gladney contributed to the university’s transition from Division II to Division I. His receiving corps ranked among the top two in every conference category during his first season there and produced the first All-Conference First Team wide receiver since 2014. His special teams units also achieved top-five rankings in several conference categories.

Sean Green will serve as running backs coach following roles as quarterbacks coach at the University of New England and head football coach at Portland High School. At UNE, Green was involved in offensive play-calling and game adjustments while also contributing to practice planning and opponent analysis. As head coach at Portland High School, he led the team to two state championship appearances with one title win and a record of 22-3. He previously won another state championship while coaching at Cape Elizabeth.

Amechie Walker is named cornerbacks coach after serving as pass game coordinator (corners & nickels) at Kutztown University. Over two seasons there, Walker was part of a defensive staff that ranked #1 nationally in Division II defense in 2024 and #2 in 2025. He coached four All-Conference players and one Second Team All-Region player while organizing positional meetings and recruiting across four areas.

Max Brower joins as sports performance coach from Southeastern Louisiana University where he was assistant director of sport performance. Brower led strength training sessions for multiple sports including softball, women’s soccer, and men’s golf while overseeing return-to-play protocols.

Patrick Reaves becomes equipment manager after interning with football equipment operations at the University of South Alabama where he managed orders for various sports programs and supervised student managers’ daily tasks.
