The University of Maine announced on April 29 that it is holding its annual Maine Day of Giving, a 24-hour event aimed at raising funds for the university’s athletic programs.
The initiative encourages alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends to make contributions from anywhere in support of areas they value within the university. The event aims to bring together the community and strengthen resources for student-athletes.
According to the announcement, all donations made to Maine Athletics during this period will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Harold Alfond Foundation through gifts to the Alfond Fund. The athletic department highlighted its tradition of excellence both academically and in competition. “Our athletics community is united by the understanding that developing champions with integrity is the heart of our daily work,” said officials in their statement. They also noted that guiding principles such as integrity, accountability, toughness, and excellence drive their efforts each day.
This year’s campaign allows donors to choose specific impact areas or varsity programs where their gifts will directly enhance program resources and improve student-athlete experiences. Examples include funding for new software or technology for baseball and softball teams, nutrition initiatives for ice hockey programs, performance equipment for track & field teams, and experience funds for basketball squads.
The university encouraged supporters seeking more information about participating or making a donation to visit its official website dedicated to Maine Day of Giving.
In closing remarks from UMaine officials: “Thank you in advance for your support of Maine Athletics and Go Blue!”
