Penobscot County Sheriff's Office Carmel Crash Update

On Monday August 29th at approximately 9:19pm the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office responded to a single vehicle crash on the Hampden Rd. (Rt.69) in Carmel. The initial investigation indicates that the 2003 Nissan sedan was traveling east at a high rate of speed prior to the crash. The vehicle crossed the center-line and left the roadway before striking several trees. 

The operator of the vehicle, Steven Shelley, 23 years old of Hermon and his passenger, Kadin Brown, 17 years old of Newburgh were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office reconstruction, forensic mapping and drone teams are working with PCSO deputies and detectives continuing to investigate the crash. The Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Carmel and Newbugh Fire Departments.
