The Husson University women's tennis team captured the 2022 North Atlantic Conference Championship on Sunday at the Armstrong Tennis Center beating Thomas College 5-2.
Husson (9-0) took a 1-0 lead following a hard-fought decision at No. 1 doubles as the team of senior Hannah Malinen and Julia O'Leary beat Kiara Goggin and Lauren Smith 8-7, while senior Nicci Munroe and junior Molly Chicoine cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Keira Gilman and Libby Forques.
Thomas (6-6) pulled the match to 2-1 at No. 3 doubles as Oliva Teague and Riley Pierce beat sophomore's Olivia Chandler and Sage Dubay in a close 8-6 decision.
Malinen continued her winning ways at No. 1 singles for the Eagles defeating Gilman 6-3 in the first set and 7-5 in set two to give Husson a 3-1 advantage.
Goggin beat O'Leary 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles to make the match 3-2, but junior Emily Doten won 6-3, 6-3 over Lauren Smith at No. 3 singles.
Sunday's NAC championship decision came down to No. 4 singles, with Chicoine giving the Eagles a 5-2 win, beating Pierce 7-5 in set one and 6-0 in set two.
With Sunday's NAC Championship, the Eagles have now won five-straight conference titles and earn an automatic qualifier to NCAA Women's Tennis Championship this spring.
Husson's Munroe earned NAC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors after picking up an 8-1 decision at No. 2 doubles.
