Senior Payton Goodwin capped off an impressive senior season on Friday being named North Atlantic Conference Senior Scholar Athlete while head women's cross country coach Kate Goupee was voted coach of the year.
Goodwin, a Physical Therapy student in her fourth year at Husson, completed her bachelor's degree in three years and moved right into her grad work. On campus, she is a member of the Organization of Physical Therapy Students, as well as the Leadership Council for the track & field and cross country programs. On top of her studies, Goodwin finds time to volunteer in her community; she has volunteered for the Winslow Public Schools Youth Summer Track Program as a coach, is involved in the Lawrence High School track and field meets, and she has also volunteered in Bangor for the St. Joe's Commit to Get Fit 5K. Goodwin placed second individually in this year's NAC Women's Cross Country Championship with a time of 24:03.8.
Goupee earned her first women's cross-country coach of the year award after guiding the Eagles to their first conference championship since the 2012-13 season.
Additionally, five Eagles were recognized with NAC All-Conference honors including Goodwin who was selected to the first team after finishing second at the NAC Championship Meet, followed by sophomore Ava Dowling who also earned first team honors after finishing third.
Freshman Grace Bedore earned all-conference second team accolades following an eighth-place performance. Junior Miranda Dunton and senior Isabelle Jackson concluded the Eagles all-conference awards as both runners finished on the second team following 101th and 14th-place finishes, respectively.
Husson was on the only women's program to play all five of its scoring runners on the all-conference team.
