Husson University Donovan scores 1,000th-career point in women's basketball's victory over USM

Husson University women's basketball junior Bailey Donovan scored her 1,000th career point as the team was victorious in non-conference action against the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday evening by a score of 69-41 at Newman Gymnasium.

Donovan scored 22 points in the game and became the 24th member of the Husson women's basketball 1,000-point club, as well as being the fastest women's basketball player to achieve the benchmark in Eagle's history as it took Donovan just 59 games to reach 1,000 career points.

Husson (2-2) wasted no time taking the early advantage as they opened the game on a 10-2 run and forced the Huskies (1-2) to call an early timeout. The Eagles would continue to pour it on and led by as many as 23 during the opening 20 minutes and they took a 44-23 into the locker room.

Rebounding and forced turnovers allowed Husson to get their big first half advantage as they held a 21-11 edge on the boards over USM, including an 8-0 lead on the offensive glass. The Eagles forced the Huskies into nine first half turnovers and capitalized by scoring 17 points off
those giveaways.

Donovan recorded 14 points in the first half to lead Husson, in addition to grabbing nine rebounds. Sophomores Sophia McVicar and Hannah Richards each scored five points, while junior Trinity Montigny filled up the stat sheet as she put in four points and also tallied five rebounds and three assists in the opening half.

USM was able to hold the Eagle's offense in check in the third quarter, as they limited them to just ten points, but unfortunately for the Huskies they were not able to cut down the Husson lead as they only managed eight points themselves during the frame.

The Eagle offense got back to firing on all cylinders in the final quarter, as they opened the final ten minutes on a 9-0 run to further put the game out of reach and earn the victory.

Donovan continued to lead the Husson offense in the second half as she put the final touches on her fourth-straight double-double as she finished with 22 points and 16 rebounds in just 23 minutes of game action. Junior Makaelyn Porter also recorded double-digit points as she tallied 13 points for the Eagles.

Husson finished the game shooting at a 40% clip and continued their dominance on the glass as they held a 42-27 edge for the game.
