Penobscot County Sheriff's Office loses tremendous member of our team.
Formal Death Notification
Penobscot County Jail Administrator Captain Nick Hardwick
It is with a heavy heart; I share the formal death notification of Penobscot County Jail Administrator Captain Nick Hardwick.
Capt. Hardwick began his career with the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office as a part-time Corrections Officer in March of 2001, and transferred to full-time status in April of 2002. Nick’s passion and drive to make a difference within our office held true throughout his career. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in July of 2010, Sergeant in February of 2018. As he continued to work through the ranks, his vast experience and skills grew. Nick was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in in February 2019 and finally Jail Administrator in May of 2022.
Capt. Hardwick’s infectious laugh and caring personality had a tremendous impact on those he worked with, the inmate population and the citizens he encountered. Along with the tremendous service to the Sheriff’s Office, Nick worked as a reserve police officer for the Town of Southwest Harbor.
While Nick’s commitment to his service was important, nothing compared to the love he shared for his family. Nick passed away while traveling with his family on a planned vacation.
Further details are being compiled and will be shared at a later time. We ask that all be respectful of Nick’s family’s privacy during this sad time. Funeral arrangements are pending and not expected to be released until early next week.
Sincerely,
Sheriff Troy MortonChief Deputy John Knappe
