University of Maine System (UMS) Chancellor Dannel Malloy will begin his Spring 2022 campus tours on Wednesday, March 30 at the University of Maine School of Law (Maine Law).
The chancellor visits all System universities and Maine Law every semester, and joins their respective leaders on tours and meetings with students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders. This semester, the chancellor’s visits will focus on gathering input for the System’s first five-year strategic plan in more than a decade. He will host listening sessions about the plan with university presidents, faculty, staff, students, UMS staff who serve on the System’s Strategic Plan Working Group, and members of Huron Consulting Group, the firm retained to help UMS develop the plan.
During the campus tour at Maine Law, the chancellor, Dean Leigh Saufley, UMS personnel and members of Huron Consulting will meet with law school leaders, students, faculty and staff throughout the afternoon and host an open forum from 4–4:45 p.m.
“This comprehensive and System-wide strategic planning effort will ensure the effective coordination and assessment of strategic activities that fulfill our tripartite mission to benefit all UMS students and the state of Maine,” Malloy said. “The questions, experiences and thoughts of our students, faculty, staff, campus leaders, and external stakeholders are all crucial for helping us create a five-year vision that leverages the advantages of Unified Accreditation to achieve a fiscally sustainable institution, and maintain the quality and impact for which our universities are known. I’m excited to begin my Spring 2022 Campus Tour at Maine Law to meet with its wonderful students, faculty and staff.”
“With the support of chancellor Malloy and the Board of Trustees, Maine Law is undergoing many positive changes at the moment, from our imminent relocation to the many initiatives that are responsive to our times, including Maine’s signature privacy and environmental programs and our clinics that support the public interests of Mainers,” Maine Law Dean Leigh Saufley said. “We are pleased to welcome the chancellor, who is a regular visitor to the Law School, along with the team of System leaders and strategic planners.”
In July 2021, the UMS Board of Trustees charged the chancellor with submitting a strategic plan for the System with a vision that is financially sustainable and has clear priorities, measurable outcomes and strategies to achieve the outcomes.
